StoneSteps Real Estate is a private equity real estate investment firm focused on building long-term, tax advantaged, growing cash flow for our investors.
We seek to buy opportunistic and value-add multifamily properties with superior risk adjusted returns.
The principals of StoneSteps invest alongside our capital partners in every deal we acquire. In addition, we believe in giving back to the community through our ProfitsProgram; StoneSteps contributes 10% of company profits to local non-profit organizations.

Principal
Matt Miller
Mr. Miller started his career as a commercial real estate broker at CBRE in the highly competitive San Francisco Bay Area. He focused on landlord representation and investment sales. After relocating to San Diego in 2008, he founded Newcrest Commercial Real Estate, which focused on representing clients seeking 1031 exchange solutions. During that time, he co-developed a 120,000 square foot campus for a physical therapy school in Austin, TX, among other entrepreneurial real estate ventures. Mr. Miller is a founding partner of Miller Commercial Properties, where he has overseen the asset management of a $200M portfolio of various real estate holdings including senior housing, corporate headquarters, industrial, retail, and multi-family assets. Mr. Miller received a degree in economics from Stanford University and was captain of the Stanford Men's Crew Team.

Principal
Caleb Schroeder
Prior to co-founding StoneSteps, Mr. Schroeder was Vice President at Stratford Partners, a private equity multifamily investment firm. He was involved in the acquisition, renovation and disposition of a $300M portfolio consisting of over 3,000 units spread across 15 multifamily assets in four different states. Mr. Schroeder participated in all aspects of the business from deal sourcing to asset management and renovation. ​Mr. Schroeder received his master's degree in City Planning from San Diego State University where he graduated magna cum laude. He also holds a bachelor's degree in Finance from Tabor College, where he was named an NAIA Scholar Athlete in track and field. He also completed undergraduate studies at Azusa Pacific University and Oxford University.

VP of Portfolio Management
Chris Hansen
Prior to joining StoneSteps, Mr. Hansen served a decade on active duty as a Navy Chaplain, completing multiple ground forces deployments including a combat deployment to the Middle East. His military service honed the leadership, project management, and high-stakes decision-making skills he now applies to complex real estate operations.
Mr. Hansen has over 14 years of private real estate investment experience across residential and commercial assets, giving him a practitioner's understanding of value-add strategy and long-term wealth creation through real estate. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Wesley Theological Seminary, where he has been on faculty for nearly a decade. He holds a Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union at UC Berkeley, a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and an undergraduate degree from Azusa Pacific University.
